Ancient Elounda (Olous) was a minoan city. It was partly destroyed hit by a tidal wave caused by the explosion of the Santorini volcano, estimated to have occurred in the mid second millennium BC. Elounda is a town placed on the north-eastern coast of Crete, in the picturesque gulf of Mirabello, about 70 km from the Heraklion airport and 10 km from the town of Aghios Nikolaos.
